Locations

The Draussenstadt - Call for Action is intended to fund open-air cultural events throughout Berlin's urban space. These can take place at locations where events have already been held frequently. However, completely new locations can and should also be used for cultural events.

Applicants are free to choose suitable locations for their events. However, attention must be paid to the permissibility and feasibility of the event.

This means that the planned event must be compatible with the place where it is to take place in terms of size and number of visitors, timing, volume and lighting as well as the required infrastructure such as stage elements and sanitary facilities. In the urban space, particular attention must be paid to environmental protection and the preservation of historical monuments, as well as conflicts of use, for example with residents.

Especially for events with amplified music, permission must also be obtained from the Environmental Agency (application at least four weeks before the event):

In order to ensure the feasibility of the event, the necessary permits must be obtained from the relevant offices. However, not all of these must be available at the time of application, but at the latest by the time the event is held. An overview of the required permits is listed at https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/324911/.
Please also refer to the BBSR - Veröffentlichungen - Freiraum-Fibel (bund.de) and the Berliner Projektfonds Urbane Praxis checklist with the most important points for outdoor events in the city.

The organisers are therefore responsible for the safety of the event and its visitors, but also for the compatibility with the neighbourhood and aspects such as waste disposal and the cleaning of the locations after the event.

Raumsonde

RAUMSONDE is a support tool for planning events and preparing permit applications for events in open and free spaces in Berlin's dynamic urban landscape. It helps cultural organisers to look for and find suitable outdoor venues and supports applying for necessary permits for their event.

For more Informations and the entrance-link to the tool check out: https://raumsonde.org/en/

Spaces

The following areas are not curated and are mostly publicly owned. For an event on one of the spaces below, a special use permit and appropriate other permits must be obtained, as for all other public spaces. Check out the links on our info page. Basic suitability has already been determined for the spaces below in consultation with the districts. However, whether the planned event is possible there must always be examined on a case-by-case basis. If you are planning an event on one of these areas, please get in touch with the respective contact persons.
