Locations

The Draussenstadt - Call for Action is intended to fund open-air cultural events throughout Berlin's urban space. These can take place at locations where events have already been held frequently. However, completely new locations can and should also be used for cultural events.

Applicants are free to choose suitable locations for their events. However, attention must be paid to the permissibility and feasibility of the event.

This means that the planned event must be compatible with the place where it is to take place in terms of size and number of visitors, timing, volume and lighting as well as the required infrastructure such as stage elements and sanitary facilities. In the urban space, particular attention must be paid to environmental protection and the preservation of historical monuments, as well as conflicts of use, for example with residents.

Especially for events with amplified music, permission must also be obtained from the Environmental Agency (application at least four weeks before the event): Antrag auf Genehmigung oder Ausnahmezulassung von den Lärmschutzvorschriften - Berlin.de

In order to ensure the feasibility of the event, the necessary permits must be obtained from the relevant offices. However, not all of these must be available at the time of application, but at the latest by the time the event is held. An overview of the required permits is listed at https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/324911/. Please also refer to the BBSR - Veröffentlichungen - Freiraum-Fibel (bund.de) and the Berliner Projektfonds Urbane Praxis checklist with the most important points for outdoor events in the city. Please send basic enquiries about permits and other spaces to: info@draussenkultur.de.

The organisers are therefore responsible for the safety of the event and its visitors, but also for the compatibility with the neighbourhood and aspects such as waste disposal and the cleaning of the locations after the event.

Model spaces

In view of the complex licensing situation for cultural events in Berlin's urban space, the Foundation for Cultural Education and Cultural Consultancy and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe have joined forces with the Clubcommission to identify possible venues for cultural events. These 13 venues will be curated by host collectives who will work with the applicants in the Call for Action to obtain the necessary permits.

As not every space is suitable for every type of event, applicants are asked to read the profiles of the venues carefully before approaching the relevant contact persons. If you are interested in organising an event at one of the 10 locations mentioned above, please fill out the form Formular Anfrage Modellflächen and send it directly by email to the respective contact.

Note: At the bottom of the page you will find a list of other areas which are not curated by a host collective and are mostly publicly owned. For an event on one of these areas, a special use permit and appropriate other permits must be obtained, as for all other public spaces. However, basic suitability has already been determined for the spaces below in consultation with the districts.
